About the Swim Team
Our Location: The pool at the Memorial Forest Club (MFC) serves as both our practice facility as well as the pool for home meets. If you are visiting or are new to the MFC, our pool is located at 12122 Memorial Drive.
Our Season: We have a very short season (about two months) so practices are frequent and should not be missed. Practices are weekday afternoons beginning on Tuesday, April 21st; the practice schedule changes after school is dismissed for the summer.
Our League: We are proud members of the Memorial SpringBranch Swim Conference (MSBSC). MSBSC provides a competitive outlet and disciplined training program for many to whom this would normally not be available, it encourages the broadest possible participation, protects the dignity of younger and less experienced competitors, and provides balanced competition for all. The ultimate goal of this program is to provide a fun and competitive experience of all involved. To read MSBSC's competition rules, click here. For the MSBSC Sportsmanship Policy, click here.
Team Name, Mascot and Colors: We are the MFC Killer Whales, and our team colors are green and white. This year's swim suits are a new design and we will representatives from Texas Swim Shop will be on hand during Swim Team Kick-off Day (April 19th) to help with sizing.
Expectations of Swimmer Ability: All swimmers will be invited to swim at all meets, regardless of skill or speed. Swimmers must be able to swim a pool-length in order to participate officially in a meet. For those who cannot swim one length of the pool, they will be assisted in the lane by an older swimmer and will participate before the swim meet officially begins. We like to work with our youngest swimmers at practice and build their skills so they will eventually be able to swim unassisted. However, we are unable to provide individual attention to each swimmer. This is best accomplished by private lessons with our assistant coaches.
Parent Requirements: To ensure a successful swim season, each parent is expected to volunteer for at least two individual jobs as part of the registration process.
Swimmer Eligibility:
A swimmer shall be considered eligible if:
- The swimmers’ parents or legal guardians are members in good standing of a MSBSC member pool.
- The swimmer does not train, compete or participate with a USA Swimming team or organization, with the exception of UIL sanctioned events, after March 8 of the current swimming season.
- The swimmers’ name is on the Eligibility List of swimmers and a signed Release and Consent Form is attached; each team is required to have an eligibility list on file with the designated League Official.
- Swimmer has not passed his/her 18th birthday by May 1 of the current swim season.
Swimmer Age Groups: Age groups are determined by the age of the swimmer on May 1. Our age groups are as follows: 6 and under, 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-18.
