Volunteer Info

Swim Director and League Rep - Jeff Spinner ([email protected])
Volunteer Coordinator- Keleigh Spinner ([email protected])

The swim team relies on volunteers to manage the operations, staffing, and financial aspects of the MFC swim program. Meets are run entirely by parent volunteers.

Each swim team family is required to fulfill two volunteer points per season. Most volunteer shifts are worth one point, but some of the larger roles - sponsorship coordinator, spirit wear coordinator, medals coordinator, end of season party coordinator - are worth two points.

You can choose to opt out of the volunteer requirement if you pay a $500 fee at registration; otherwise, plan to volunteer at two of the meets during the season. The volunteer signup typically opens near the end of April, after our swim team kickoff & new swimmer tryouts.

If you have any questions about the volunteer requirements, or if you would like to volunteer for one of the coordinator positions, reach out to Keleigh Spinner at [email protected] or 512-825-6028.

Below is a list of volunteer roles with descriptions.

COORDINATOR ROLES

Sponsorship Coordinator (2 points)
The Sponsorship Coordinator solicits sponsors and collects sponsorship payments and logos before the season begins.

Spirit Wear Coordinator (2 points)
The Spirit Wear Coordinator coordinates the design, ordering and distribution of swim team merch - team shirts, hats, yard signs, etc.

Meet of Champs Medals Coordinator (2 points)
In the weeks leading up to Meet of Champs (typically the last weekend in June), the Medals Coordinator prints the labels for medals at Meet of Champs and sorts medals into ziploc bags by event number. The Medals Coordinator also works in the medals room on the Sunday (finals day) of Meet of Champs.

End of Season Party Coordinator (2 points)
The End of Season Party Coordinator plans the food/catering and coach gifts for the end of season party (typically on the Wednesday or Thursday before Meet of Champs weekend). The party coordinator(s) also commit to arrive early for setup, help througout the party and stay late for cleanup.

MEET JOBS

Meet Director
The Meet Director is in charge of the meet, adjudicates all disputes and has the final word in all matters subject only to a written protest as provided in the competition rules. The Meet Director calls the swimmers out of the pool and lets the Starter know when to begin the next race. The Meet Director also gathers information from the Stroke Judges and Touch Turn Judges regarding disqualifications. The Meet Director then informs the coaches, the swimmer and the scorekeepers of the DQ decision.

Starter / Announcer
The Starter announces event and heat numbers over PA system, operates the starter horn and starts each race.

Dolphin System Operator
The Dolphin System Operator manages the timer system throughout the entire meet. If you sign up for this role, you must also be available for training during Time Trials.

Stroke Judge
The Stroke Judge watches all swimmers to make sure they are performing appropriate stroke and technique. Reports any infractions to the Meet Director.

Place Judge
The Place Judge stands at the finish line and determines which swimmer finished in the place order the Place Judge is assigned. The 1st Place Judge determines the winner, the 2nd Place Judge determines the 2nd place finisher, the 3rd Place Judge determines 3rd place, etc. Once all places have been determined, Place Judges hand out ribbons to swimmers in the heat.

Touch Turn Judge
The Touch Turn Judge ensures swimmers make appropriate turns and wall touches during the meet and reports any infractions to the Meet Director.

Recorder of Order of Finish
The Recorder records the order that swimmers finish on a white board. The Meet Director approves the white board, then passes the board to the scorers.

Scorer
The Scorer is the official MFC scorekeeper for the meet. The Scorer records scores for each event. Both teams have scorers that keep score and stay aligned throughout the meet.

Timer
Each lane is assigned one Timer. The Timer uses a stopwatch to time swimmers and records the times on a printed Timer sheet.

Event & Heat Sign Operator
The Event & Heat Sign Operator uses remotes to operate MFC's two event & heat signs. The signs allow coaches, swimmers, age group parents and spectators to track progress of the meet.

Age Group Parent
Age Group Parents stay with their assigned age group and keep the swimmers organized (goggles, towels, etc.) and ready for each event. Age Group Parents line up swimmers by heat and lane and walk the swimmers to the Ready Bench for each event.

Ready Bench
Ready Bench volunteers ensure that swimmers are lined up correctly, by lane and heat, on the ready benches.
